2 Oceans Half Marathon – Cape Town

Over the Easter Break, Ian Tait successfully completed the 2 Oceans Half Marathon in Cape Town, South Africa. Ian and his wife Alison decided it was time to return to Cape Town, exactly 30 years after their previous visit to this beautiful city.

The last time they were there, Ian completed the 2 Oceans Ultra Marathon, being a 56 km run through some of the most scenic (and hilly) parts of Cape Town. The 2 Oceans Marathon is known as “the most beautiful marathon in the world”, and rightly so. The run is a truly international event with runners from all over the world, as well as South Africa, participating. This year 11,000 runners took part in the ultra marathon and 16,000 in the half marathon.

Although Ian is tempted to do the ultra marathon “one more time” the training required is extensive and his busy legal practice precludes him from putting in sufficient time on the road. So to keep fit and keep the travel bug satisfied Ian hopes to run in various half-marathons around the world as and when the opportunity arises.

Whilst they were in Cape Town Ian and Alison took the opportunity to hike up Table Mountain accompanied by a local guide, enjoying the spectacular views from the top, before descending the easy way, by cable car.

Ian and Alison highly recommend Cape Town as a travel destination and those who are interested in running should consider whether the challenge of the 2 Oceans Marathon in Cape Town is something they’d like to take on!
